The JFL42 comedy festival, had already announced its initial slate of acts and then added Joe Rogan, announced an armload of more comedians coming to the festival this September in Toronto: Chris Gethard, Baron Vaughn, James Acaster, Tony Hinchcliffe, Joel Kim Booster and Jo Firestone.
The most prominent names are arguably Chris Gethard — a veteran TV host and podcaster who performed his most recent one-man show Career Suicide at Royal Cinema last year — and Vaughn, known for work on two Netflix series: voicing Tom Servo the rebooted Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and being a live-action co-star on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie. Also joining the roster of the fest, running Sept. 20-29:
- Acaster is an English comedian and Edinburgh Fringe Festival institution whose latest special, James Acaster: Repertoire is available on Netflix.
- Abrasive, dark American standup Tony Hinchcliffe got some attention with his innovative 2016 comedy special, One Shot(on, yes, Netflix) filmed in one continuous take.
- Korean-American Joel Kim Booster has a new album Model Minority and was just named one of Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch in 2018.
- Jo Firestone’s half-hour special aired on Comedy Central this year and she’s the creator of Punderdome: A Card Game for Pun Lovers.
Both Gethard and Hinchcliffe will be taping episodes of their respective podcasts — Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People Podcast and Kill Tony — at ComedyCon, the parallel podcasting event running in Toronto during the day during JFL42.
Previously announced headliners at the festival include Hannibal Buress, Seth Meyers and Jo Koy. Also in the lineup are Lil Rey Howery, Maria Bamford, Ryan Hamilton, Jeff Ross and more, including someone called Ismo.
Tickets and passed for the above are available at JFL42.com.
